First off, I must say I know next to nothing about Anime. It’s just never been my thing. However, I just saw a commercial for Dimension W on tv. What caught my attention is the car the (I assume) main character was driving. Looked to be a Toyota 2000 GT. Anybody know anything about this show and if that is indeed what the car is?

Ok, I do know what Initial D is at least. I’m not THAT uneducated in anime lol.

It’s by the same people who made Darker Than Black, a decent to pretty good series, if confusing. It’s about this new source of electricity discovered, but it’s origin is not quite understood (the show’s overarching plot is this mystery). Thus, with nearly free electricity, petrol powered things are put out to pasture.

The main guy is a neat character, but I’m endlessly annoyed they have to put the half-naked-all-of-the-time girl/Android to sell the show with middle school minded males -_-

English voice over work has come a long way since I used to watch on middle/high school, and if they’re trying to sell this enough to make commercials, the voice work should match the animation pretty well.

Edit: To more specifically answer your question, yes, that is a Toyota 2000GT, and the plot is kinda like I, Robot with Will Smith but with these things called coils that give free electricity instead of robots.

Oh ok, I was a little worried there for a second and thought we might need a sit-down.

Yeah, that can be annoying, but you know who the target market is. It came on during adult swim, so that explains a lot I guess.

Seems pretty interesting. Like I said, the car is what caught my interest. It did sound like the voice work was pretty decent.

Yeah I saw phonebook’s pic right before I saw your edit. Love those cars.

Ok, that kinda makes sense then. May have to check it out.

Yeah, it’s just a shame to keep some shows’ sometimes pretty neat and unique take on different themes/motifs stuck in this stereotype of ‘just for kids and perverts’.

It’s at the point where the only 2 Anime I’d ever recommend my 20-something friends is Black Lagoon (Identity and purpose of life in the face of nihilistic violence and how different people of different upbringings deal with it) and Ghost in the Shell (Again, identity, but in the face of growing intercommunication and the blending of the individual into a collective).

The only one I’ve watched in the past 4 or 5 years that I might recommend in the future if it is converted into English is called Boku dake ga Inai Machi, a show that is kinda like if you took one episode of Quantum Leap about a serial murder mystery and stretched into a series, dealing with inevitabilities of decisions and their consequences, plus personal truth vs social perceived truth (Think Nick Caraway at the very end of Great Gatsby).
